Throughout the capstone the primary emphasis has been revising previous assignments from various course in the MALT program that align with the 8 Program Learning Outcomes (PLO). Each activity provided in the links will coincide with one or more of the 8 PLO outcomes. Below are the 8 PLOs covered in the course. However, the revised assignments will be in order of importance to me. As an educator, I selected the order based on how I rationalize the PLO and how I would implement them within my lessons.
8 Program Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate knowledge and skills related to learning using technology;
2. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in current and emerging instructional technologies;
3. Design learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the needs of all learners;
4. Apply research to support learning in a technology-enhanced environment;
5. Exemplify ethical practices of technology usage;
6. Evaluate technology resources to facilitate effective assessment and evaluation;
7. Utilize technology to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings; and
8. Demonstrate the ability to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of learning and leadership.
As an educator I encounter these Program Learning Outcomes on a regular basis. How I have them ranked appears to be backwards on my links to the right. I have attempted to change the order but Wikispaces isn't cooperating. I have them ranked as follows. The one that is of greatest importance to me is my ability to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of learning and leadership. This is PLO number eight. In order to use technology effectively I must be able to determine which tool would be most effective and engaging in my classroom. As educators we must know that just because we use technology in the classroom doesn't equate rigor, or engaging. The next PLO is number five especially when using it to assess students. It is imperative that student information is kept private and confidential. I must ensure that ethical practices is being used in the classroom. In addition, students must feel that their information isn't accessible by anyone other than teachers, administrators and the student based on their login information and password that is solely for their personal use. The next PLO in order of importance for me would numbers 4, 6 & 7. In my opinion these three go hand in hand. In one of my assignments I used an online tool to evaluate whether or not silent sustain reading was effective in helping student increase their Star reading assessment, benchmarks and end of year assessment. The resources that were technology based were Star Reading, benchmarks and Accelerated Reader. These tool allowed me divide students up individually to determine their reading level, set goals, analyze their data, communicate my findings with students, parents, administrators, and other English Language Art teachers. Next, would be PLO number 3. Based on my research I was able to determine what strategies I needed to implement for the students in my classroom based on their reading level, and benchmark scoring. Students who were below grade level needed small group instruction and constant monitoring while on their chromebooks. My more advanced students were allowed to work on more project based assignments. These students have proven to master many of the objectives being covered and were allowed to technology as needed based on their project. Lastly, PLO one and two in my opinion need all of the other six PLO in order to truly be successful and effective in the classroom. In order to stay abreast of current changes in technology, instructors need to stay current and knowledgeable of technology tools that are effective and engaging in the classroom.
